Recommended books on church conflict & reform
I have been reading some books related to church conflict & reform which I find helpful and which I would recommend to others:
* 'Crossed fingers - How the liberals captured the Presbyterian church'by Gary North, Published by Institute for Christian Economics. Downloadable or for sale at www.freebooks.com
- Helpful because the tactics used by the liberals to corrupt the Presbyterian church are the same as those used by the apostolic personality cultist ideology to take over and corrupt His People, MorningStar etc.
* 'The Mark of a Christian' by Francis Schaeffer is a short book about the need to display love to our enemies in the midst of church conflict. Schaeffer was a veteran of such conflict and felt that often our conduct in the conflict was a bad witness to the world.
* 'The forgotten Spurgeon' by Iain Murray is a book about the conflicts Spurgeon had in the 19 century with liberals seeking to corrupt the Baptist church. Many know about his sermons, but few knew how much he fought with other Christians to maintain the pure true faith - nor how much this cost him in his health and popularity at the time.
'Gresham Machen' by Ned Stonehouse is a book about the hero of the Fundamentalist-Modernist controversy in the 1920s and 1930s. While most major denominations and universities were falling away from the Word of God, Gresham Machen faced them head on in public debate - in defending historic Biblical Christianity. He also let the split of the Presbyterian church and inspired other denominations to do the same.
* The Book of Matthew, Holy Bible. Especially chapters 18 on church discipline and 23 where Jesus launches his lambasting attack on the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. May we follow his example and be prepared to suffer as he did.
Anyone got any more inspirational and/or educational books to recommend on this theme.
