Many members of EveryNation leave hurt and disillusioned not only with EveryNation but with the church in general. As a result they either avoid church altogether or if they find another church then they keep away from active service to Christ to avoid getting similarly hurt again. Some find it hard to trust Church ministers in future. This scenario, while understandable in many cases, is very tragic. Others less severely hurt, suffer pain, anger and depression for several months after leaving. Some abusive leaders may have messed up a few years of your life, but don't let them mess up the rest of your life. Most helpful in starting the recovery process is to realise that the problem is not with you (which is usually the abusive leaders allegation), but with the abusive religious leaders themselves. They follow in the footsteps of the Pharisees who persecuted Jesus and the true apostles and prophets of the scriptures. www.spiritualabuse.com/I strongly recommend the book 'Healing spiritual abuse' by Ken Blue www.amazon.com/gp/product/0830816607/002-7620205-4229655?v=glance&n=283155This is also available as a course at www.vineyardbi.org (select materials only option)

Personally, I found Damaged Disciples by Ron and Vicki Burks to be helpful since it documents people under the same shepherding regime. It was like "that sounds very familiar"
Their solution/theology was not that helpful, but their life story was like a big road sign saying "do not enter" I realized after reading that book that I could not go the way they did.

One cannot "recover" from anything by rejecting what is true about the Bible and about God.
You cannot "recover" without being clear about what is true and what is not true.
You cannot "recover" from Biblical truth, unless we call that what it is -- backsliding.
So you need to be very careful about what is Biblically true and what is not true before you start talking about "recovering" from anything.
Do you want to "recover" from God Himself? Clearly not.
So you had better know the difference.
